Some 20 secondary schools in Kiambu are set to be transformed into digital schools of distinction after the launch of the digital literacy programme.
The programme launched by the Global e-School Communities Initiative and African Digital Schools Initiative Kenya is aimed at providing strategic support to develop and implement models of good ICT- based practice for high-quality education and training for both students and teachers.
The program which will run for the next five years will see teachers supported by a post-training online portal and a school visits programme to apply their learning in practice. Global e-School Communities Initiative CEO Jerome Morrissey says the digital programme will incorporate technology in the learning systems to promote quality education mostly targeting mathematics and science subjects.
"The project is designed to build secondary schools students with 21st-century skills and enhance teaching practices in a way that is responsive to the needs of the marketplace and to the emerging knowledge economies and societies," said Jerome on Thursday at Kiambu town.
Kiambu County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki says the digital literacy program is expected to promote the use of ICT in the county as well as boost good results in schools.
