Kiambu County is seeking to recruit new doctors in a bid to restore normalcy in public hospitals.
Governor William Kabogo said his government will start recruitment of new doctors next week to replace those on strike.
Speaking during a breakfast show on Kameme FM on Monday, Kabogo said the county has already contacted 30 doctors from India who will be employed on a temporary basis.
"The county is partnering with Miot International Hospital in India and from next week 30 doctors will be arriving in the country. We will employ them for a period of three months," Kabogo said.
He said the decision was reached after the doctors on strike refused to respond to letters calling them to resume duty.
“The doctors have not responded to our letters and we cannot force them to resume work. We can't continue to watch patients suffering helplessly in our hospitals," he said.
The county boss said the 30 doctors will attend patients with emergency cases and those involved in low traffic accidents, diabetics and anyone in a comma. Doctors have been taking part in the countrywide strike that commenced on December 5, 2016.
