A Kiambu MP has urged Christian and Muslim leaders to spearhead cordial relationship between their congregations.
Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo says some Christian followers are suspicious that terror attacks are being perpetuated by Muslim followers at this time the country is rocked by several terror attackers.
Njomo says that is not the case and thus Christian clerics should foster unity between their followers and other religious groups.
The MP who was speaking in Thika Town on Wednesday said the country risks sliding into inter-religious war that will be difficult to quell if religious leaders will not show unity.
The legislator observed that people of various faiths have lived peacefully for decades and thus the current attacks should not be used to fuel war in the country.
“Some Christians have started viewing people of Islamic faith with suspicion after the terror attacks but I want to advise them to treat the incidents as criminal activities,” said Njomo.
He noted that terror attacks have reached a point where religious leaders have to find a way of bridging the inter-faith gap caused by terrorists who spare Muslim faithful and kill Christians.
“I urged Muslim and Christian leaders to hold a forum as a show of unity which I think will try to reduce the tension being experienced in the country,” he added.
The MP cautioned the youth to beware of joining suspicious groups after being lured with money saying terror groups are utilising the vulnerability of young people to recruit their members.
He called on the government to invest in employment of more National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers so as to get more information on potential attacks.
