The MP claims that land grabbing is on the rise in some parts of Kiambu town and that issuance of title deeds will curb the menace.

Njomo, while addressing Journalists on Saturday at his Kiambu office, claimed that some influential people in powerful positions are behind land grabbing.

The Kiambu MP threatened to expose prominent individuals who have allegedly grabbed public property if they fail to surrender the said property in seven days.

“I ask the Lands Ministry to fast-track issuance of land title deeds to enable us identify and know genuine land owners in Kiambu,” said Njomo.

The MP noted that he has received several complaints from a section of the public over land grabbing cases.

Njomo welcomed relevant government agencies to investigate and prosecute alleged land grabbers.

The MP said that he is scrutinising the complaints and will soon make public the names of individuals who have allegedly grabbed land.

Njomo also alleged that some of public land meant for construction of schools, markets and health centers has been grabbed.

“I will publicly expose powerful individuals who have grabbed public land meant for development if they fail to surrender it back to the community,” he said.

Njomo said that he will not tolerate grabbing of public property when the people supposed to benefit from it are suffering.

Last week, a section of Muoroto-Kamiti residents in Kiambu town, held demonstrations over alleged land grabbing of a 2000 acre piece of land by a prominent politician.

The residents claimed that a powerful government official has grabbed the land that they have been living in for over four decades.

The locals claimed that they had been issued with a notice to vacate the land but vowed to stay put and fight for their rights.
