The business fraternity in Makongeni has praised the move by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo to reduce levies that had traders had previously been charged in the area. Speaking to press in Makongeni on Thursday, Makongeni Trader’s Organization chairlady, Jane Kihara said that the move by the County government to listen to the traders’ concerns about the excessive charges by the county administration was a welcome. The chairlady praised the move, saying that in the future the administration should seek consultation with trading organizations within the county as a way of creating a conducive business environment where every trader feels the comfort of their work. Business fraternity in the region has also been impressed by the various steps the county government is making towards ensuring there was proper business services accorded to the traders. She cited the new revenue collection system dubbed Digitika card as an initiative geared to improve collections that would go a long way to improve their operations at the market. According to Kihara the new system is good for the traders and encourages them to embrace the modern technology of tax payment system, since they can easily monitor their revenue system data.She said that it was motivating to see the County administration move towards credible forms of revenue collection, since to them it showed credibility and transparency in the county administration.
