Kiambu County Assembly has approved a move by the county government to increase the bursary funds from Sh1 million to Sh2 million for each ward this financial year.
Murera ward MCA Mr George Kioi said the move is meant to ensure that every deserving Kiambu resident benefits from bursaries.
He said poor parents have been flocking his office claiming that their children are being sent away from schools but funds have been insufficient.
He said the county government had requested the same through the department of Education and Cultural Services. The County wanted a bigger figure but later agreed on what was offered after debating on the issue.
Kalimoni ward MCA Mr Joel Waichere lauded the parents from the area saying that they have been patient despite the amount received being little. He said the parents will welcome the increase in bursary funds.
The Juja MCAs agreed to support education in the area working with the area MP Mr Francis Munyua in order to better the results from the area schools.
The leaders were speaking in Juja area on Friday where they met the electorate in a public forum.
Among the MCAs who attended were Mr Peter Muiruri (Witeithie), Mr Samuel Munene (Juja town) and Mr Patrick Kinuthia (Theta ward).
