According to the county’s Education CEC Esther Ndirangu, each ward in the county has received Sh2.2 million.

Ndirangu said that according to their research, they have established that many students in the county are still unable to access education due to lack of fees despite there being the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the national ministry of education’s bursaries.

This, she said, has indirectly led to increased poverty in the region.

“There are children from this area who come from very poor backgrounds who cannot afford education. They are always being sent home for fees. There are those who can argue that Kiambu is a rich county but a closer look at the grassroots reveals a different picture, this is why we came up with this plan,” Ndirangu says.

To ensure that the money goes to the right and deserving students, ward committees have been established to manage the kitty.

Kiambu County has of late lunched ambitious programs to uplift the education sector in the county, with the recent one being digitising the ECDs.
