The widow of slain Kiru Boys High School Principal Solomon Mwangi has pleaded for bail saying that her continued confinement will affect her four children negatively.
Jane Muthoni who is the prime suspect in the November 2016 murder of her husband, told the court on Tuesday that the accusations leveled against her were well choreographed and fabricated to cover up the identities of the real killers.
“I plead to be let free on bail so as to take care of my children as I proceed with the trial. I am very much determined to clear my name,” reads the affidavit presented in court before judge Joel Ngugi at the Kiambu High Court.
Muthoni, who was the Ichachiri Boys High School Principal, was charged on November 22 after Mwangi went missing on November 6. His body was found by a watchman on November 13, at Karuntuma Coffee Estate in Witeithie, Kiambu.
In March this year, another suspect in the case, Joseph Kariuki Njuguna was jailed for seven years after he pleaded guilty to the murder charge which was reduced to manslaughter after he pleaded for leniency.
Njuguna said he and his other accomplice were promised Sh400,000 by Muthoni, but were only paid Sh100,000. The judge set the hearing for June 26 where Muthoni's request for bail review shall be heard.
