Miss Kenya Evelyne Njambi has registered history as the first Kenyan to appear among the top five most beautiful people in the world.
She was also the first Kenyan to hold the Miss World Africa title in a competition the country has always participated in since 1963.
The 22-year-old Interior Design student and Miss Kenya Kiambu took her position of pride in the world finals held in Maryland in Washington, DC in an event that was aired to millions of live audience in the world.
She moved the audience and judges during the question-and-answer session where she was asked on what needed to be done to improve education in the world.
With confidence, Ms Njambi quoted South Africa's first president Nelson Mandela saying that she would fight for equity in the empowering of every child in the world.
“We should begin by empowering every child in the world to understand that education is important. Former South African President Nelson Mandela said that it (education) is the weapon they should use to face the future," she said.
“So let’s first educate our parents that education is important and then we will have all children on board knowing that education is important to achieve their dreams,” she said.
The first position went to Puerto Rican Stephanie Del Valle while the first runners-up slot was taken by Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez from the Dominican Republic with Miss World Indonesia Natasha Mannuela coming closely after.
Speaking after the announcement, Njambi attributed her fortunes to God.
“I am humbled and greatly honoured to have been the one representing not only my beautiful country Kenya, but Africa too to finish in the top five! I attribute my success to God’s unfailing love and grace!” she said.
