Africa Cancer Foundation (AFC), Managing Director Dorothy Nyong’o, speaking during the closure of a cancer screening exercise on Monday at Thika Muslim Primary school said that cervical and breast cancers are causing more deaths among the women in the county.

“We receive many cases of cervical and breast cancers in women many, which are reported late,” said the Managing Director.

She further raised concerns over the large number of women who fail to report cervical cancer cases for fear of stigmatization.

She observed that cancer cases can be properly handled and cured if reported early, noting that her organization has initiated campaigns to educate women and the larger society on cancer.

She said that over 11,000 women in Kiambu have been sensitized about cancer.

On the same note, the MD also advised men to go for screening, noting that many of them have cancer symptoms yet they don’t know.

Speaking when he opened the screening exercise over the weekend, Kiambu health executive Jonah Mwangi said the county has in place appropriate strategizes to combat non-communicable diseases like cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.
