Speaking in Ruiru on Wednesday, the women said that they are facing challenges in taking up the family responsibilities as the men have turned to alcohol leaving the responsibilities to the women.

Led by the Kiambu Maendeleo ya Wanawake group treasurer Mary Wanjiku Ndungu, the women faulted the illicit liquor brewers for making it hard for the men to abandon the daily drinking behaviours.

“These people should be arrested and prosecuted as the brews are illegal and are taking over our society. Our husbands have left all the family responsibilities to women and they need assistance to stop the daily drinking habits,” said Wanjiku.

She claimed that the chiefs and local administrators have been collecting bribes from the brewers instead of fighting to curb the menace that has been facing the central region for a long time now.

She added that the youth have also been indulging in the illegal brew.

The women also called on Kabogo to involve them in the county leadership roles stating that women hold very few leadership positions in the county yet they are the majority in attendance of the county meetings.

Governor Kabogo promised to include them in the county government affairs.
