[Photo: The Slopes]A section of Kiambu County residents held a peaceful demonstration along Thika streets on Tuesday to demand that Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili Owino alias Babu Owino apologize to them. The demonstrators claimed that the MP had devalued Kenyan women in his slur aimed at Presidential Uhuru Kenyatta. Similar protests were held in Githurai and Kimbo in Ruiru where Jubilee supporters furthered their displeasure. The irate residents who carried banners branded anti-Owino slogans chanted to their loudest demanding immediate apology from the MP, and gave him a three days’ ultimatum to apologize through a national newspaper and his social media platforms.“Am a woman, and like any other woman, I feel the pain of Uhuru’s mother. If you insult one woman, you insult all women across the board. We demand an immediate apology from Owino by writing on his social media platforms, a full page apology on a national newspaper,” said Mary Wambui, one of the women leading the demonstration.Arnold Mungai another protestor said Owino is a young man and his age demands that he respect his elders to be able to fit in leadership. "It is surprising that he went beyond limits to devalue our women who fought for the redemption of the nation,” he said. However, Owino continues to remain adamant arguing that he did not direct his sentiments to a specific individual.“I will not apologise to anyone because I called nobody’s name during my address. We have so many presidents in Kenya from the president of SONU to all presidents of students’ unions in Kenya, president of the Supreme Court, president of youth senate and many more,” read part of Owino's Facebook statement.
