Speaking at Thika town on Saturday, Nyokabi said that time has come for women to take up leadership roles and get into politics.

She said that for a long time now, women have been sidelined, but they now have a voice through the constitution.

“Women should not fear politics and instead should seek elective positions so that we can work towards development,” said the women representative.

She further said that the role of women in society is critical, and that they should come together through politics.

Nyokabi dismissed the notion that politics is a dirty game, saying that it becomes dirty only when leaders engage in hateful politics.

She further re-affirmed that unity of women in the county is what is needed, saying that they have skills and knowledge to spearhead development in the country.

“What is ailing women is lack of unity, which is needed for us to take up top leadership positions,” she added.

The women representative at the same time urged women to form groups and apply for development funds.

She said that the national government has taken the responsibility to empower women; a move she observed will help in the fight against poverty.
