Kiambu Women Representative Anne Nyokabi has urged the government to address the issue of youth radicalization in order to effectively fight terrorism and related crimes.
Speaking at Kiambu town yesterday, Nyokabi raised fears over the high number of young people who are allegedly joining terror groups.
She said the government must find ways of stopping radicalization and ensure youths are engaged in development activities.
“The government must quickly stop radicalization of youths and make sure that those behind it are arrested and charged in court,” she added.
The Women Representative said that many youths are being exposed to dangerous teachings and that leaders must take up their roles seriously to stop radicalization.
Nyokabi alleged that youths from across the country including Kiambu are joining terror and criminal groups.
The county women leader also asked the government to support more programmes that would create job opportunities for the youth.
She said that many young people are desperate and see crime as the only way they can use to address their issues.
Nyokabi urged Kiambu women to take up the role of counseling young people so that they can meaningfully contribute to development.
