Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba has asked the national government to sack chiefs accused of abetting illicit brewing in the county.
Wa Muchomba alleges that a section of chiefs and local administrators in Kiambu are encouraging consumption of outlawed alcoholic drinks.
Speaking in Gatundu Town on Tuesday, the vocal MP claimed that some chiefs end up the selling exhibit they collect from illicit brewers and sellers of second-generation alcoholic drinks.
“The government must take stern action against chiefs and other officers who are encouraging the sale of illicit brews and outlawed drinks,” she said as quoted by a local daily.
The Women Rep said that the fight against illicit brews will not be won unless rogue chiefs and police officers are sacked and send to jail.
Meanwhile, the MP has decried high bhang consumption among youth in Gatundu.
“There is an alarming upsurge of bhang smoking among youth and we call on relevant agencies to intervene,” she said.
She appealed to elected leaders and residents to join hands and help in the fight against illicit brews, drugs and second generation alcoholic drinks.
