Chania ward's member of the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation Beatrice Muthoni has asked women in the area not to relent in demanding for one-third gender rule as indicated in the constitution that allows for more women in leadership.

Muthoni noted that many government leaders are men who think less of women. She cited an example of Kiambu county government where she said that very few women have access to major seats.

"The constitution stipulates that not more than two thirds of elective posts should be made up of one gender. Women therefore have a responsibility to wake up and fight for their leadership rights in this county," she said.

Muthoni called on male members of the county assembly to be on the fore front of the implementation of constitutional directives by discussing how best to empower women in Kiambu.

She was speaking on Wednesday in Chania township.
