Kiambu County Joyous Women Group chairlady Susan Karanja has urged women in the area to join table banking groups.
Karanja noted that high level of participation and inclusion of women in the generation of wealth is of great importance .
“Women should increase their participation in table banking in a bid to take a stake in economic growth,” said Karanja .
Speaking on Monday at Kibichiku Shopping Center, Kabete Sub -County during a table banking meeting, Karanja urged women to participate fully in economic growth.
“Days are gone when women were regarded inferior in the financial fields,” said Karanja.
She added that contemporary women have excelled in financial management.
She said that giving women scope in the financial management would strengthen their power in shaping the destiny of their families and the country .
“ Women are good when it comes to finance; they have been accredited in running successful businesses,” she noted.
Karanja however said that there is need for more training in the field of table banking among rural women.
“ Women at grass root levels need more financial training in table banking to facilitate smooth use of chamas resources,” she said.
She urged women to form chamas to strengthen table banking concept.
Naom Wangari, a member of Joyous Women Group, lauded the table banking concept for helping to alleviate poverty among women and families.
“Table banking has been instrumental in addressing the challenges facing grassroots women,” said Wangari.
