Laura Kamau, the chairlady of Kiambu Women Forum said that women play an integral role in leadership, and they should be given equal opportunities as their male counterparts.

“Women have the same capacity to deliver as the males and equal opportunities should be accorded them,” said Kamau.

Speaking on Friday at ACK Kikuyu Church Hall, Kikuyu sub-county during a meeting to discuss the role of women in county's development, Kamau called for more substantive equality among women.

“The constitution is clear that two-thirds of post should be held by women,” said Kamau.

She further noted that the forum would continue to push for the implementation of the rule to enable more women participate in decision making.

“One -third gender rule has not been successfully implemented at county's level,” she added.

She said that days are gone when women were regarded as house wives, further calling on the national government to lay down a gender strategic plan that would make more women are absorbed into leadership.

“Women have accelerated the social and economic gains in our society, that is why I urge them to participated in political fields and vie for top posts,” she noted.
