Youth in Kiambu Sub-County have been advised to seek alternative ways to empower themselves by engaging in income generating ventures instead of being used as propaganda machines by politicians.
Speaking in her office on Monday, Kiambu Sub-County youth officer Charity Githinji called on the youth to use alternative means to empower themselves and not just depend on white collar jobs and handouts from politicians.
“Youth in the area have not put enough efforts towards advancing a course that would uplift their lives but are instead used by politicians to spread negative propaganda against their adversaries. I therefore call upon the youth in the county to use available opportunities and resources to create employment and also be in a position to uplift their living standards,” she said.
Githinji said the youth should use their potential to come up with creative projects that would generate income by attracting funding from the county government through the formation of youth groups which would also reap benefits from tenders.
“The youth should come up with ideas that will transform their economic base and not just wait to receive help from politicians. There are very many available options for the youth like starting up income generating schemes,” said Githinji.
The youth officer said the youth have been misused by politicians in the past to advance their own agenda at the expense of the youth in the area.
“It is a pity that some politicians use the youth for their own selfish gains instead of empowering them so that they can be able to exploit the available opportunities,” said Githinji.
She called on the youth to support their leaders at all times as they draft ways of helping them exploit available opportunities to boost them.
