Kiambu County Youth Director Marie Mugo has cautioned young people in Githurai and across Kiambu County against engaging in violence and acts of crime.

Addressing members of the Githurai Youth Bunge at Githurai shopping centre on Saturday, the Director appealed to youths to shun violence.

Mugo said some youth were being lured into violence by selfish individuals, and urged youth to shun people and leaders who would want to misuse them.

The director also asked youth to work with their leaders who are development oriented so as to empower themselves.

“There is a tendency of some selfish people luring vulnerable young people to violence and acts of crime. We want to tell youth across Kiambu to avoid such people,” she said.

The Kiambu youth director said the county had made strides in empowering young people through the Uwezo and Biashara Funds, and asked youth to seek the funds and start business enterprises instead of joining criminal gangs.

Mugo also cautioned youth against drug abuse saying it has destroyed many lives.

“Young people should forget about alcohol because all alcohol does is to destroy their lives,” she said.

The director called on security officials in the county to continue the fight against alcohol abuse and illicit brew.

She said that youth will be empowered if they shun drug abuse, violence and acts of crime.
