Kiambu County youth affairs and sports executive, Machel Waikenda, has said that the county sports and youth empowerment programme will officially kick off on Monday in Gatundu South Constituency.
The workshop is meant to sensitise youths on importance of sports and talent nurturing. This will help to equip them with knowledge to venture into sports activities as a career.
Speaking in Thika town on Friday morning, Waikenda said that the workshop will help youths in Kiambu to take sports seriously.
“I expect the meeting to be an eye opener to youths in the county that talents can offer them self-employment,” said Waikenda.
He said that the empowerment will not only be matter of sports but business management which will help to reduce unemployment rate in the county.
The sports minister expressed his concern with the number of youth being arrested and sent to jail in the county due to theft related cases.
The event will be graced by former Citizen Television presenter, Johnson Mwakazi.
Waikenda urged the residents to avail themselves in large number to learn from experts who will be present.
He revealed that he has started working on the 2015/2016 financial year budget for youth and sports and he will place more funds on youth empowerment.
