Gituamba ward youths have demanded for an explanation on the criteria used by the county government in awarding tenders and contracts.
Speaking in Gituamba Township on Sunday, the ward youth sports representative Maina Mbugua observed that youths in the area have been locked out from getting thirty per cent tenders and contracts reserved for the youth, women and persons with disability.
"We have been hearing that prominent people and elate business persons benefit directly or indirectly from these tenders, does it mean that the poor people cannot win such tenders?" he asked the area MCA.
The youths who had gathered to be addressed by the area ward representative Sammy Ng’ng’a insisted that the county government should explain to the entire youth fraternity the reasons as to why they are not being considered when awarding the contracts yet the constitution stipulates the guidelines for tender allocation.
Speaking to the youths, the area MCA advised the youth to form strong development groups to assist them in winning the contracts.
Ng’ang’a on the other hand advised the youths to engage in horticultural farming rather than flocking to boda boda riding sector after finishing secondary education.
"There is an available market for horticultural products in the local boarding secondary schools which could help you in boosting your living standards," he said.
