Kiambu town Member of County Assembly Mr Lawrence Mwaura has censured youths in the area for not taking advantage of government funds to uplift themselves.
Addressing youths at Kiambu town on Monday, Mwaura lamented that many of the youths have not shown interest in applying for Uwezo Fund and taking advantage of the 30 per cent government tenders reserved for them.
He said that documents by the county youth’s department show that very few youths from Kiambu town have applied for Uwezo Fund.
“I am disappointed with Kiambu town youths over their laxity and lack of interest in applying for government funds and tenders,” he said.
The Ward Representative noted that youths will continue languishing in unemployment if they continue with the negative attitude.
He noted that youths in some Wards across the county are doing well because of their uptake for Uwezo fund.
“You (Kiambu youths) must change your way of thinking and grab every opportunity the government is providing to advance your lives,” he challenged them.
Mwaura also asked youths to be active and seek to be involved in the development projects taking place in the area.
He observed that most youths are idling in estates while others spend their time watching videos and games in pubs.
Meanwhile, the MCA wants the Kiambu government to engage persons living with disabilities in development.
Mwaura claims that the county government has sidelined disabled persons when it comes to leadership and development.
He said he had received complaints from disabled persons on the issues and asked the government to address them.
“The Kiambu government must be inclusive and engage persons living with disabilities in development,” said Mwaura.
