Kiambu youths have been urged to appropriately use their leisure time well, especially during holiday seasons.
Speaking in a youth forum in Thika probations hall, Rebecca Kariuki, the head of children in Thika west district, challenged youths to engage in activities that would be beneficial to them by using their leisure time well.
According to Kariuki, youths needed to shape up their talent and skills as a way of occupying themselves, noting that an occupied mind would be the appropriate way of leisure time usage.
She noted that the youths are encouraged to register with sporting academies during the holiday, as it would prevent them from engaging in unwanted activities that may be brought by idleness.
Her counterpart, District Youth officer Laban Mwangi also echoed same challenge, by requesting youths to appropriately engage into meaningful activities.
Mwangi called on the parents to keep their children occupied in various activities like helping them in farm activities, shopping with them and revising while off other activities, urging those who own businesses to employ their children as a way of keeping them engaged.
“Parents are also encouraged to educate their children on the importance of proper time usage during holidays and leisure time, this will help in fostering development,” said Mwangi.
