Residents of Kiandutu estate have been sensitised on importance of the Nyumba Kumi initiative to tame crimes and drug abuse in the region.
Community policing chairperson, Paul Njomo, and other officials visited the region, calling on residents to embrace the initiative.
Njomo said that the area has been neglected by both investors and the county government due to the rampant criminal activities, noting that children in the area have not been attending school, thus being introduced to crime and drug abuse at a tender age.
“Children here do not go to school and therefore they are introduced to drugs and crimes when they are still very young,” Njomo said, adding that the region was notorious as a den of criminals and therefore no one is concerned about its security.
“You just stand and watch as your neighbour is killed by criminals and you can’t help,” he said.
Njomo further noted that he is determined to improve security in the area by conducting more barazas to educate residents on how to tame crimes and drug abuse among them and make Kiandutu a better place.
His sentiments were echoed by Kiandutu police boss Julius Muthaka, who said that they are dedicated to transform the area to welcome investors.
