Tension engulfed Thika town on Tuesday as two rival groups claimed possession of Kiandutu market stalls.
One group affliated to the Thika MP, Alice Ng’ang’a, claimed control of the stalls. The group which is mostly composed of bodaboda operators said that that they have a stake in the controlling of the market.
“The stalls were put under our control by our MP,” said Stephen Kimani, a bodaboda operator.
The other youth group said to have the backing of the Thika Ward representative, Kennedy Mwangi, also claimed to have been allocated the stalls by him.
However, the MCA denied being involved in the conflict saying he has no dealing with the group.
“I have no information regarding my involvement in the conflict,” said Mwangi at Thika town when asked of his involvement in the conflict.
He said that local leaders should not incite residents into petty issues and that they should focus their attention in the development of the area.
“I have not allocated any stall to any group. Those who claim to have been allocated the stalls by me are cheating,” said Mwangi.
