Speaking at the slums on Friday, area MP Alice Nga’ng’a said enough funds had been set aside to oversee connection of water points.

She said it is the duty of leaders to ensure residents and the people they represent have access to basic commodities.

The MP said most people living in the slum have no access to clean drinking water which has resulted to eruption of diseases like diarrhoea.

“I have instructed the CDF committee to allocate enough money to supply clean water to Kiandutu residents,” she said.

Imperial Bank donated Sh150,000 which the MP said will help in initializing the project. Nga’ng’a said that the project should be running in three weeks.

“By the time we are celebrating Christmas and New Year, Kiandutu residents should also be celebrating access to clean water,” she said.

The MP said plans are underway to improve the living conditions of slum dwellers. She stated that slum dwellers have the right to proper housing and other basic facilities being enjoyed by other Kenyans.

The lawmaker asked the county government to speed up the eradication of slums and ensure residents have proper housing structures.
