Speaking to youth groups on Sunday, area ward representative Kennedy Mwangi said youths have a role to play in keeping the area clean.

He urged youths to use their free time and take part in activities that will improve the sanitation standards of the area.

“I want to challenge our young people to partner with us as we strive to keep our environment clean,” he said.

The MCA at the same time alleged that the county government is reluctant to clean up the ward.

He said that garbage lies uncollected, a situation he said could lead to an outbreak of diseases if action is not taken.

The MCA urged the county government to further address key sanitation issues facing the county before embarking on major development.

Mwangi at the same time asked the government to improve security at the Kiandutu slums, noting that locals are living in fear.

He said that cases of mugging and robberies are on the rise and called for police intervention.
