Kiang'ombe youths have been urged to shun from indolence and look for available casual jobs within the estate or the neighbouring industries in the area.
Speaking to a group of youths at Kiang'ombe Assistant Chief's camp on Thursday, Thika sub-county Youths Officer Patrick Muema noted that there were several opportunities in construction sites in the area yet many youths were slow to embrace them.
"There is nothing good that comes from idling around. You have to go out of your way and try and earn something even if it is small. I am told that there are several constructions going on here and around Thika but many youths would rather sit down than go for them not to be christened 'watu wa mjengo'. I advise you to go for them because in life you have to start from somewhere," said Muema.
Muema further noted that many factories in Thika also hire casual labourers which he asked the area youths to embrace too.
"Don't say you are too learned for a particular job and currently you are not doing anything. Go for what is available as you wait for an opportunity to open. There is no pleasure in begging and relying on others to meet your needs. Ladies, similarly you have to drop that diva-attitude and seek to be dependent on yourselves rather than the so-called sponsors," he added.
He also called upon the youths to form groups and apply for the county Biashara Fund to help them start small businesses in order to empower themselves financially.
