President Uhuru Kenyatta’s failure to unite Jubilee leadership is the major reason for the party’s defeat in Kitutu Chache South constituency, says Antony Kibagendi.
Considered as one of the tough race, Ford Kenya’s Richard Onyonka clinched the seat having garnered 10,122 votes against Kibagendi’s 5,074.
“It was a worthy race and has taught me something. Competing against worthy opponent and beating him is never easy at all. We tried our best,” said Kibagendi in his concession message.
Despite ODM fielding a candidate, NASA leader Raila Odinga threw his weight behind Onyonka, the eventual winner three days prior to Tuesday’s election.
But Kibagendi has taken a swipe on Jubilee leadership by accusing it of non-commitment and subsequent support to rival candidates.
“Jubilee leadership was against me a part from Millicent Omanga and Richard Tong’i. The rest opposed my candidature and the national leadership did little,” he said on his Facebook.
Kibagendi had replaced Leonard Mwamba, who died moments to August polls precipitating postponement of elections to November.
Despite campaigning in Gusii for presidential repeat elections, President Uhuru Kenyatta never campaigned in the constituency.
