Retired President Mwai Kibaki has called on Kenyans to be patriotic adding that this will foster development and boost the economy of the country.
Kibaki, who spoke on Friday at Cathedral church of Christ the King during the requiem mass for former Nakuru Town MP the late Mark Mwithaga, eulogized the late as a man who was patriotic to the nation and fought to bring about change.
"Alot have been said about the late Mwithaga, but that which I would repeat is that we need to emulate his spirit of patriotism and work to bring the transformation of the nation,"he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta through a message read on his behalf by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, termed the late as a hero who did all that he could to serve the people of Nakuru and Nation at large.
"Mark Mwithaga was not only a leader but a hero who made sure the people of Nakuru Town were served fully.We stand with the family and as leaders we have to emulate his virtues," Kenyatta said.
On his part, Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said it was sad for Nakuru county to lose such a leader.
"As a county we have lost a great leader and we just hope that all will go well and that we shall get other men and women who will be able to serve in that line,"he said.
Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Sicily K. Kariuki who also spoke at the requiem Mass urged everyone to emulate the good parental art that the late Mwithaga used both in his family and the society at large.
Others who spoke included MPs David Gikaria(Nakuru Town East) and his Bahati counterpart Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri.
