Following the sudden death of Nyeri governor Wahome Gakuru, leaders have come out to condole with the family, friends and nation at large.
Among those who sent their condolences were former president Mwai Kibaki who expressed the huge loss the county had suffered in his demise.
"I had so much hope and faith in what Governor Gakuru would have done for the people of Nyeri and indeed the citizens of Kenya," Kibaki said.
On his part, President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogised the late Gakuru as a visionary leader who had the interests of his people at heart.
"My family and I, and the National Government send our deepest condolences and sympathies to the late Governor Gakuru’s family and his Nyeri constituents," he said.
"Nyeri and the country have been robbed of a great promise with the demise of Dr Gakuru, a committed, visionary and tireless leader," the president added.
The governor died Tuesday morning in a grisly road accident at Kabati.
His body was transferred from Nyeri county hospital to the Lee Funeral Home.
