Kibera boda boda operators have increased their fares following the hike in fuel prices which took effect from Monday.

Speaking Wednesday morning at the DC area, Raphael Matunda, a rider said the fuel rise has also forced them to increase their fares.

“A passenger taking a boda boda from Kibera to Yaya Centre will now pay Sh200 up from Sh100, and within the Kibera area, no one will carry a passenger or luggage for less than Sh50 unlike before when it would cost between Sh30-40. During the night, the charges will be more expensive,” said Matunda.

He further said before the diesel cost was Sh78. 92, petrol Sh89.72 and now the new prices are diesel Sh79.60 and petrol Sh90.40.

“Some of the boda boda riders are employed, so to meet the day’s target for the owner and also get some cash for their up keep, they have to increase charges. Despite the high rates, customers who use motorbikes should not shy away from seeking ourservices," urged Matunda.
