Just a day after the government in partnership with two local universities commenced the laptop project, it has now emerged that no school in Kibera slums has been listed for the phase one distribution.
The first beneficiaries in the Digital Literacy Programme include schools from Mombasa, Kwale, Garissa and Uasin Gishu counties. However, all is not lost as the first phase marks the beginning of the laptop distribution to all class one children across the country.
Jomo Kenyatta and Moi universities shall be involved in the initial installation of the servers in this first phase out.
Kajiado was the first beneficiary with its Ilbissil boarding and primary school being the first in the country to benefit from the scheme.
It should be remembered that the laptop programme was one of the provisions in the Jubilee manifesto prior to the 2013 general elections. However, critics still argue that the laptop program is misplaced as some of the primary schools in some parts of the country have no infrastructure to even support the laptops.
