A group of thirty head teachers from Kibera held a retreat to discuss and establish rules on what they will do to achieve good education performances in Kibera.
The teachers also discussed how they will support child talent through co-curricular activities.
‘‘Education is the key to life. I cannot say we should base on education alone and sideline talent. Some of the pupils are able to get 250/500 marks in KCPE. We all know that talent can be used to feed people. We, therefore, should know that talent is equally important. I, therefore, urge you friends to support co-curricular activities,’’ said one teacher.
The retreat was named Elimu ni Yetu and was attended by the office of the Kibera MP, Ken Okoth. Teachers were also told to advise the children if they seem stressed.
This comes after a teacher in Magoso identified as Ogira said he uses talent to motivate the children before they settle for their classes every morning. He said the mood of the children could be studied because some children go through tough life at home and could not concentrate in class. He said the children are taken through music to help them forget all their problems before they go to class. This means they are able to concentrate.
