They say the poor drainage is endangering their health status. They are also worried that there might be floods when the April rains come.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon in the village, the residents said the blocked drainage systems in the area are risking their health and they fear a cholera outbreak and other waste related diseases.

According to the residents, the drainage terraces and trenches in the area have blocked due to the careless throwing of wastes such as polythene causing poor drainage. They noted that the wastes in the drainage during the rains makes flooding water get into their houses because there is no free flow of rain water in the blocked channels.

"I have been a resident in the village for 10 years now. The area has been having poor drainage but the situation seems to be getting worse each day. There is sewage passing at a nearby drainage pattern and I am forced to unblock the trench for the sewage to flow,” said Imelda Akinyi, a resident.

"Children play around the wastes dumping sites and near the poorly drained areas with stagnant sewage wastes and this is risky for them as they could contract all types of diseases. Our landlords and caretakers are taking no action to help us. We request the county government department of environment to intervene and help us unblock the drainage patterns and dig up well tranches for free flow of sewage wastes and other wastes,” said Nancy Kioko, another resident.

Devis Ouma, also a resident said that now that April rains are about to start, floods will be experienced and loss of lives and property will happen if the drainage systems will not be maintained in time to allow free flow of rain water.
