The threats come after houses were razed down in Kibera near the slum upgrading housing project on Monday 10th October.

Residents said  that they were in fear that they would lose their properties since cases of fire have been on the rise.

"It is unfortunate that we are losing property day by day. We will vacate the houses to avoid further risks because the fire incidences seem to be like a curse to us," said Joshua Khaemba, a resident.

Another resident Clinton Mueke pointed out that despite the low charges of rent paid to landlords, tenants are the ones suffering most.

"Landlords have insured their houses. Once they get razed down, they get compensation from insurance companies. Tenants are the ones making losses due to loss of property worth of thousands shillings," said Mueke.

The situation was however given a different angle by another resident George Katam.

Katam challenged locals to avoid illegal connections of electricity because it was what was causing all the fires.

"Before we vacate we need to avoid illegal power connections which have caused all the losses in the slums. Every week there must be fire incident in the slums due to poor electricity connections. If this will be avoided, we are likely to live safe," noted Katam.
