Kibera residents on Friday complained of water shortage since the beginning of the week.
Many of the residents blame the shortage to a diversion of the commodity to the Nairobi Trade fair.
Residents are forced to wake up very early in the morning to queue for the little water which is being sold within.
“We usually wake up as early as 5am to fetch water which is not even enough for our families. Some of us have babies whose clothes need to be washed every day. Water is a problem, we cannot afford buying a lot of it because its price has increased,’’ said Beatrice Moraa a resident of Makina.
Vincent Mwalo also said the water taps in the area are not giving them enough water. “The taps have no water forcing us to walk for long distances to fetch water from neighbouring villages,’’ he said.
Being a congested area, residents queue for as long as five hours to get the water. “We are many and everyone needs water. We end up quarrelling and becoming enemies as we fight over water,” added Mwalo.
Residents now want the organisers of the Nairobi show to be preparing them in advance so that they will not be struggling to get water whenever the show is ongoing.
