The alcohol control committee in Kibera has called upon NACADA to ensure that club owners that continue to violate the rules of the sale of alcoholic beverages without the required licences are arrested and prosecuted.
The call was made by residents from the ward of Katwekera in Kibera area after they said that alcohol abuse is on the rise in the area and there was need to curb the situation.
Speaking on Wednesday, Jack Onyango said many traders opened their clubs before the proper time and close them late.
"Here you will find many open clubs and the activity continues and I have not seen any action being taken," said Onyango.
Besides that, they noted that many clubs are close to schools something which continues to affect schooling for students.
"Sadly, the alcohol sales is done at the top slum schools and that is very dangerous for students who often enter these clubs," said Maurine Atieno, a resident of the area.
They have requested a committee visit to the area to witness the problems they are experiencing and more so that the matter can be dealt with.
“We are calling on the state agencies to ensure that alcohol abuse declines and those carrying out the business have the required licenses to do so,” she added.
