Residents of Kibera have raised concerns over reckless bodaboda operators in the area.
Most of the times, the riders are seen riding carelessly on the roads without observing road rules, something residents have termed as lack of proper training from the driving schools.
A resident of the area, Moses Ayienda said that many riders are school dropouts who get trained by their friends and after two to three weeks, they begin the bodaboda business.
“The riders are mostly seen riding at high speeds which lead to a high number of accidents. Many of them also have no licenses since they were trained manually,” stated Ayienda.
“I prefer using motorbikes to my place of work because they are quick but the way they are ridden here is worrying,’’ said Rachael Abuta, another resident.
She noted that NTSA should carry out a crackdown in the area to arrest the riders who operate the bodabodas before undergoing the required training as this could help prevent road accidents.
“Passengers should take concern not to board motorbikes before knowing who the rider is and whether he or she has gone through training,” said Ms. Abuta.
