Speaking this afternoon at Laini Saba village in Kibera, James Ogato, the area Kenya Power officer said that many houses in the area are near electricity posts which are quite dangerous. He, therefore, advised landlords to build houses far away from electricity wires and posts to prevent loss of lives caused by electricity interruption.

‘‘When building houses, ensure you give some allowances for electricity wires and posts. This is risking the lives of the tenants in case there is a misconnection or touching of live wires,” said Ogato.

He advised tenants not to rent such houses near electricity posts as many people have lost their lives as a result of accidently touchoing these posts or somehow coming into contact with power.

“Electricity is not something people should joke with. Both residents and landlords should be keen. Any house whose roof is touching power cables should be pulled down. At times, wires leak and it touches iron sheets that transmit power, the outcome of this is death,” he said.
