Kibera stakeholders peace forum held in AIC Kibra on Wednesday brought together key security players and slum residents to a highly deliberative meeting targetted at ensuring continued peace and tolerance in the cosmopolitan Kibra constituency.
The participants deliberated on a number of issues, with recommendations adopted to ensure area residents never turn against each other, especially at a time when political tension is gradually heating up across the country.
Local political, religious and community leaders were tasked to get out of their boardroom peace meetings and reach to the people on the ground to educate them on the need to remain tolerant despite ideological differences or misconceptions.
Residents were also encouraged to be mindful of others even when they are exercising their constitutionally granted rights, noting that those rights should never infringe on the rights of others.
Tolerance on ethnic and religious matters took the central position with individuals being educated on the importance of mutual coexistence in shaping a successful society.
Most importantly, the youths were encouraged to spearhead and preach peace in their various social media pages so as to create a better image of the slum area.
Recently, there was ethnic tension between two sides in the area and the peace forum is expected to boost coexistence among people with different backgrounds living in the area.
