Illegal dumping in Kibera is still ongoing despite the campaigns from relevant authorities towards the residents to keep the environment clean.
Golden Momanyi, a resident at Mashimoni area in Kibera today morning said that residents in the area are still not taking instructions on the need to keep the environment clean seriously. He said they are constantly dumping wastes recklessly thus, worsening the environmental conditions.
“At times, it is very bad as residents dump rotten foodstuffs, dirty water and other materials that make the living environment dirty. This is hazardous to our health. Business traders and residents as a whole should comply with environmental rules to keep the environment clean always,” noted Momanyi.
He said that the county government and environmental agents should intervene and in case one is found dumping in areas that are not designated for dumping then they should face the law.
“Like other areas if one is found dumping carelessly that person should be arrested. A fine of more than sh 50,000 should be given to whoever is found dumping in Kibera,” he suggested.
