Kibera residents in Sarang’ombe village have been urged to clear the dirty stagnant water in the area.
They have been urged to do so in order to curb the spread of malaria in the area that could be caused by mosquitoes breeding in the water.
According to Robert Ochieng', a caretaker in the area, many residents near dirty stagnant water in the blocked drainage are likely to contract malaria because mosquitoes responsible for malaria transmission breed in it.
Speaking on Tuesday evening at Sarang’ombe village, Ochieng’ said that if residents do not clear the water, they should be ready for malaria infection as breeding of mosquitoes will be high in such an environment.
“I wish to encourage all tenants and residents living near dirty stagnant water to take necessary measures that will shield you from mosquitoes,” advised Ochieng’.
“It is our mandate to put measures in place now that we have heard about something which is likely to affect us. Once you live in a clean environment your health will be safe as well,’’ he stated.
