Residents of Kibera have said that the slum has turned out to be a tourist place with several people from and outside the country touring the region.
They said that every weekend different people are spotted going around the slum.
"Every weekend Kibera slums being the largest slum in Africa, receives people who visit the slums. People from across the country comes to the slums to see the kind of life people are living in," said Duncan Oluoch, a trader at Laini Saba market.
Vincent Ouma stated that as residents they feel happy seeing people going round the slums something he said gives them hope.
"It is good for one to be a tourist in his/her own country. Many Kenyans visits the slums with other people from outside the country. As residents, we feel the company of the people and this has boosted businesses in Kibera since the many people visiting Kibera buys food and other items from traders operating in the slums," added Vincent.
He urged the government to support and secure those touring the slums since at times they get robbed by gangs.
"Tight security should be given in the slums as many visitors tour the area to avoid any robbing from gangs who might take advantage to steal from the innocent visitors," he noted.
