Roads traversing Kibera slums are in for a major renovation and rehabilitation.
This has emerged after the Nairobi County government hinted on its plans to have a major upgrade in its transport network.
In its budgetary proposal, the city government seeks to have a $4 million financial allocation for the next financial year so as to reservice and construct new roads that link the city to its external residential areas and other business centres.
The news comes at a time when Jackson Kinyanjui, the Treasury's director of debt management made a formal submission in a letter copied to Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero and John Mosonik who is the transport PS. Kinyanjui's letter acknowledged that the treasury accepted and adopted the proposal by the Nairobi County government to reconstitute the city's transport network and hinted that the project would soon be launched.
The roads to be accommodated in the maintenance project include Mombasa Road, Outering, Kibera and Langata. A railway line is also set to connect the various estates in the city.
