Kibera is set to have two new secondary schools before the end of 2017, according to Ken Okoth, the area legislator.
Okoth says that the need of more schools has been necessitated by the fact that many parents have learnt on the benefits of educating their children and the need to have quality and better learning environments within the reach of the poor households.
"Access to secondary school education is critical. For the majority of families in Kibera, footing the cost of boarding schools for their boys and girls is simply unaffordable. We, therefore, must provide quality day-school options within walking distance. We now have the opportunity to build two new secondary schools before 2017," stated Okoth.
However, residents have been urged to submit their proposals on the sites where the two schools shall be established.
"As Kibra residents, you are requested to from either Jamhuri Primary, Joseph Kangethe Primary, Toi Primary, Mbagathi Primary or Kibera Primary as the sites where the said secondary schools shall be erected," added Okoth.
Upon completion of the two projects, students joining secondary schools will have a wider option of nearby schools to chose from hence cutting transport costs that would otherwise be incurred when travelling to much distant schools.
