Business owners in Kibera have come out to speak openly of the challenges they face in their line of duty.

This was witnessed during a forum organised by the Vision Sisters that was held at Ayany Vision Sisters’ office on Wednesday.

Speaking to this writer, Baria Kassim said her biggest challenge is language barrier and rude attitude from some of her customers.

“Sometimes a person can come to buy a commodity which she knows its name in her mother tongue. When she asks of the product, you are left wondering what she wants because as a business person, I might have never heard such a word or name,” said Baria.

She complained that other customers are very rude and use impolite language.

“Some customers use give answers and think that they have not hurt you,” she added.

Others businesspeople said they face challenges when attending to customers with special needs such as those with hearing impairments, the blind and dumb.

They were however advised by Linda Chalker to master some vernacular names of the products and use of sign language to communicate whenever they have no other option.
