Beneficiaries of Monday’s sewing machines have thanked Kibra MP Ken Okoth for his connection that led to them receiving the donations.

The sewing machines were donated by a South Korean nongovernmental organisation, I Love Africa, through their headquarters in Nairobi.

However, the donation exercise will also be replicated to other slum areas in Kenya.

The sponsor Nong Hyup said the exercise was to empower slum women.

John Maseka who received a sewing machine said he appreciates the MP because families’ livelihoods will improve through creation of jobs for people.

“I am not just thanking honourable Okoth because I am benefiting from the sewing machine. I am thankful that Kibera families will now have a reason to smile because the machines will create job opportunities for them to be self reliant,” he said.

Margaret Auma also thanked the area MP.

“This is a very rare opportunity for mothers to be given presents from abroad. Thank you very much. It is not easy for us mothers to start looking for overseas friends. By bringing them to us, you have really surprised us. You have not just helped a woman but an entire community,” said Auma.

She promised to work hard and bring change in Kibera.
