''With the increased number of job seekers in the country, I think it is better for people to be self-employed.''
These were words spoken by Ronald Onyango from Kibera. Speaking on Tuesday at Olympic bus station, the 21-year-old parking boy said many youths wait for their parents or the government to help them.
''Youths should rise and fight poverty. This is a disease that will not be cured easily. It is all in the mind. Let the world know that you are poor because of the choice you make,'' said Onyango.
In a single day, Onyango boasts of making between sh2500 to sh3500 which is not taxed. He, however, says he does all this for six days. This means the minimum earning is sh15,000 per week. This is someone’s salary for a whole month.
Onyango says he loves his hustle because it helps him work even harder. He believes in self-employment rather than being employed and earning little money. He urged other youths to stop being lazy and being over dependent on the government and relatives.
